The coroner's jury visiting the wreck of the Princess Alice after the great disaster on the Thames. The Princess Alice paddle steamer worked on the Thames as a pleasure steamer, transporting day trippers from London Bridge. On the 3rd September 1878 whilst the Prince Alice was making its final journey of the day it collided with a coal ship, The Bywell Castle. The collision occurred when the two pilots both assumed that the other ship would give way. Over 600 lives were lost with only 69 people rescued
