Photograph showing the damage to the Empire State Building caused when a Mitchell bomber flew into the 78th and 79th floors on the 28th July 1945. The pilot of the airplane, Lieutenant-Colonel W.F. Smith, was unable to see the skyscraper due to heavy fog at the time of the accident
