Death of George V - sons guard father's bier

In the early hours of Tuesday 28 January 1936, just after midnight, King Edward VIII and his brothers, the Dukes of York, Gloucester and Kent, took part in the mounting of the guard over their royal father's coffin. The King was in the uniform of the Welsh Guards, the Duke of York was in Royal Air Force uniform, the Duke of Gloucester in the uniform of the 10th Hussars and the Duke of Kent was in naval uniform. They took up positions in between the guards already on duty and stood, motionless, with heads bowed and hands resting on their sword hilts, for twenty minutes, after which they moved slowly away from the catafalque and marched back to the Guards Quarters
