The deserted village of Tullig, Ireland 1849
This is a landscape scene of the deserted village of Tullig in Ireland. It has a quiet and desperate air about it. A lone figure in tattered clothes holds a stick as he walks by the disused dwellings. The roofs are in a state of disrepair and render the cottages uninhabitable to all but the most destitute and dispossessed inhabitants. This was common during the potato famine and evictions in the middle of the 19th century
