Diners at the Trocadero, 1925

Sedate modern diners on a site of old-time revelry. Twentieth-century society dines decorously where once stood a haunt of roysterers in the "seventies" (i.e. the 1870s!): a Louis Quartorze setting at the Trocadero. Before the Trocadero in London was established as a restaurant in 1896, there stood formerly the Argyll Rooms, in which bands of young Victorian men and women would dance and drink until early in the morning
