Epsom Derby was seen by cinema audience miles away 1932

During Epsom Derby week with King George V and Queen Mary of Teck and the Duke and Duchess of York (later George VI and Elizabeth Queen consort) present, the Metropole Cinema broadcasted the great event on screen to an audience fourteen miles away at 160 Victoria Street, Victoria, London. Diagram shows the mirror-drum that was two feet in diameter and had thirty mirrors around its circumference, as it rotated, each mirror reflected the image downwards through another lens onto a row of three independently wired photo-electric cells
