Fatal inundation at Holmfirth, view from Mill Hill
View from Mill-Hill, towards Victoria Bridge after the bursting of the Bilberry reservoir in the early hours of 5 February 1852. The reservoir, located west of Holmfirth in West Yorkshire, was found by an enquiry following the disaster to be defective. An estimated 86 million gallons of water poured down the Holme Valley along the route of the River Holme, causing considerable destruction to houses and buildings and claiming 81 lives
