Fort Belvedere from the air
Aerial view of Fort Belvedere, Virginia Water, the country home of King Edward VIII. Built by King George II as a belvedere (look-out), when troops returned from quelling the Scottish rebellion were encamped in Windsor Great Park. In 1827, King George IV converted Fort Belvedere into a rural retreat, while King George V enlarged the house, and when Edward VIII took it over as Prince of Wales, a gymnasium was also added as well as an aerodrome
