Foundations of a housing estate laid on Wanstead Flats
Cement platforms laid on the Capel Road estate, requisitioned by East Ham council for a post-war housing estate, in the face of opposition from the Corporation of London who owned Wanstead Flats and wished to preserve the amenities of Epping Forest, of which this is part. 167 houses were to be built on th eland with prisoners of war used in the work. Fortunately, the estate did not go ahead and Wanstead Flats remains as parkland for the community of east London to enjoy
