A furious charge of Irish troops at the taking of Guillemon
Irish troops attacking German positions at Guillemont, September 1916. Irish soldiers engaging in fierce hand-to-hand combat at a machine-gun post which survived the Allied artillery bombardment prior to the attack. The Battle of Guillemont began on 3rd of September 1916 as part of the greater British offensive which began with the Battle of the Somme in July of that year
