A £2000 dinner party at the Savoy, 1910
The winter garden of the Savoy Hotel converted into a realistic representation of the North Pole when Mr George A. Kessler, the New York millionaire (seen on the right, standing) gave a banquet to rival his much-talked-of gondola dinner of four years previously (see picture numbers 11017490 and 10469569). The cost of the banquet was stated to be over £2000 or nearly £60 a head. Picture shows guests seated amid the icebergs whereas the poor waiters were dressed as eskimos
