General Boulbaki's French army at Travers in the Canton of Neufchatel, Switzerland, during the Franco-Prussian War. Boulbaki's beaten and starving French troops were forced into Switzerland by Prussian armies under Werder and Manteuffel. The French troops were cut off from their supply lines and were forced to eat bark from trees. Boulbaki tried unsuccessfully to kill himself
