General Lord Gort
General John Standish Surtees Prendergast Vereker, 6th Viscount Gort (1886 - 1946), commander in chief of the British Expeditionary Force in France in 1939 and 1940. He went on to hold various positions during the remainder of World War Two. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for actions in 1918 during the First World War
