George Frampton with the Nurse Cavell memorial
Sculptor Sir George Frampton, pictured setting up the Nurse Edith Cavell memorial in Charing Cross Road. He poses with part of the figures, its head veiled. Edith Cavell was a British nurse arrested by the Germans in August 1915 on charges of helping 200 Allied soldiers escape to the Netherlands. She was executed on October 12th 1915. The memorial was unveiled by Queen Alexandra on 17 March 1920
