The Golden Ampulla and the Anointing Spoon

The most ancient of the Regalia and those used in the most Solemn Coronation Rite, the Anointing of the Sovereign: The Golden Ampulla and the Anointing Spoon.~~~~The Ampulla, which holds the oil used in the Anointing, is of gold. The head, which screws off, was probably made by Sir Robert Vyner at the Restoration, but the body appears older and may have escaped destruction by Cromwell's agents.~~~~The Spoon probably dates to the Twelfth Century, and is of sliver, heavily gilt and decorated with four pearls. A ridge divides the bowl, into which the Archbishop dips two fingers during the rite. ~~
