The Great Lafayette in his study, 1911
Sigmund Neuberger (or Newburger) (1871-1911), otherwise known as illusionist The Great Lafayette. Seen here in his study at 55 Tavistock Square, London, which was decorated with pictures, colour, lights, flowers and things he had collected. His beloved dog Beauty is on a cushion in the centre of the sofa, alongside another of his dogs. The Great Lafayette died in a fire at the Edinburgh Empire Music Hall (Empire Palace Theatre) on 9th May 1911
