Memorial unveiled in 1908, by Hampshire County Cricket Captain E.M. Sprot, to mark the site of the Hambledon Cricket Club Ground (circa 1750-1787). Broadhalfpenny Down is considered to be the birthplace of modern cricket and the Bat and Ball Inn at Hambledon, one of the oldest cricket pavilions
