Hanwell Asylum 1843
A exterior view of the Hanwell asylum in north-west London. The asylum opened in 1831, on the outskirts of London. Patients were encouraged to become self-sufficient, working in the prision and supplying local industries with their produce. The sketch was taken during a bazaar orgainsed by the asylum, selling work made by the patients
