Hard times in the East End - distress in West Ham
The densely populated working district of West Ham feeling the pinch of winter very bitterly. 40, 000 persons were on the verge of starvation. A great shilling fund was set up by the Daily Telegraph and the relief work was actively pushed forward by the local clergy, the Salvation Army, the municipal and volunteer workers
