Herbert Ingram

Herbert Ingram (1811 - 1860), MP for Boston, Lincolnshire, and founder of The Illustrated London News. Died in a shipping accident on board the Lady Elgin steamer on Lake Michigan, USA, on 8th September 1860. The image is a reproduction of Ingram taken at the age of 30 in 1841 by Jabez Hogg, the original of which was apparently passed to the ILN by Hogg's granddaughter in 1949, although the whereabouts of the original is now unfortunately unknown
