The high hat trend, 1960

A selection of hats with high crowns, fashionable in the early 1960s. Top left is an original Tyrolean hat, which, can be bought over the counter at the big department stores for a modest price'. Top right is a high hat of black cire plaited straw by Pierre Cardin in the shape of a Grecian helmet. Bottom right is another Cardin model inspired by the Tyrolean line made in coarse plaited cire straw in a dark tan and trimmed with broad petersham ribbon of the same colour. Finally, centre is hard little straw top knot hat by Christian Dior, not easy to wear and must be worn with the hair close to the head and scooped in a light chignon at the back
