Some Honours Men by Lieutenant Fred May

Caricuatures of some officers who had won military honours in the First World War. Bottom left is Captain Brown who got his DSO in 1914, was a prisoner in Germany but managed to escape. In the middle is Lieutenant Frederick William Palmer V.C. of the Royal Fusiliers, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions near Courcelette in France in February 1917 where he took control of his company after all the officers had fallen. He dislodged an enemy machine gun and maintained a barricaded position despite eight counter-attacks, all the while rallying other men. Bottom left is Captain B. A. Saunders, M.C. West Yorkshire Regiment, top right Captain W. A. Wolfendle M.C. of the King's Own Lancaster Regiment and then R.A.F, top middle is Major D. J. R. Richards, D.S.O, M.C or the Royal Garrison Artillery and in the top right is Lieutenant H. Furniss, MC, The Duke of Wellington's Regiment
