The Immigration of Poor Aliens 1903
Exhausted Jews arrived by steamer boat from Hamburg at six o'clock in the morning and then waited for the Customs House officials who would come at eight to inspect their luggage. They would then be taken to the Jews shelter in Leman street, where they would have breakfast. A number of them in the day were put on a train at Waterloo Station for Southampton, whence they would go on board a ship again for South Africa
