Inauguration of King Victor Emmanuel monument
Inauguration day for the Victor Emmanuel monument, known as Il Vittoriano, in Rome. The first stone of the enormous architectural marble monument to, Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy, was laid on 22nd March 1885; the architect was Count Giuseppe Sacconi. It occupies a site between the Piazza Venezia and the Capitoline Hill
