Inspecting Cossack troops
Tsar Nicholas II and the Tsarevitch, Alexei inspecting Cossack troops. Nicholas assumed command of the Russian army in 1915 and became associated with military failure. He renounced the throne in 1917 and he and his family were executed by Bolsheviks in July 1918
