The King Alfonso XIII of Spain
King Alfonso XIII (1886 - 1941), as a young boy. Born posthumously, his mother, Queen Maria Christina acted as regent until 1902. Alfonso married Princess Ena of Battenberg in 1906, the couple narrowly escaping an assassination attempt on their wedding day. The king went into exile in 1931 when elections proclaimed a republic. He died in Rome in 1941. He is the grandfather of the present King Juan Carlos of Spain
