Kinross and West Perth by-election declaration
Kinross and West Perth by-election declaration of results. The by-election was held on 21st December 1938 due to the resignation of the the incumbent Unionist member of parliament Katharine Stewart-Murray, Duchess of Atholl (right), who resigned as a protest against the government's foreign policy of appeasement. She sought re-election as an Independent, but was beaten by William McNair Snadden (left) and regained for the Unionists. The returning officer, Sheriff D P Blades, is in the centre
