Lady Astor, who sat as MP for the Sutton Division of Plymouth from 1919 to 1945 pictured arriving for the opening of Parliament in 1948 wearing a Cartier tiara featuring the Sancy diamond, a historic gem reputed to have been worn by Charles the Bold at the Battle of Nancy in 1477. It had other owners including Elizabeth I, James I and Marie Antoinette
