Lady Iris Mary Athenais de Vere Capell (1895-1977), elder daughter of George Devereaux De Vere Capell, 7th Earl of Essex and his American wife, Adela Beach Grant, pictured in nursing uniform at Watford Hospital awaiting the arrival of wounded soldiers. Iris came out as a debutante in 1913 and attended Oxford University. She never married
