London Hippodrome, Madame Heliot & her lions
Madame Claire Heliot feeding raw beef to her lions (and a couple of dogs), in the arena of the London Hippodrome in 1901 in what The Sphere describes as "a very daring performance". Note the iron bars which arose around the arena during a dangerous animal act to protect the audience. The steak restaurant at the Hippodrome Casino today is named after Claire Heliot
