Military tailor and in family in Bethnal Green 1863
This is a room occupied by a military tailor and his family at No. 10 Hollybush Place in Bethnal Green in the East End of London. Weavers and tailors kept their rooms as clean as possible owing to the nature of their trade but lived in squalid and decrepit buildings run by landlords who felt no urgency to clean or renovate these slum dwellings. Here the tailor and his family toil day and night in miserable living conditions
