Murder Trial of Lord Cavendish and Thomas Burke 1883
On 6th May 1882 Lord Frederick Cavendish and Thomas Henry Burke, Chief and Under Secretaries for Ireland were brutally murdered in Phoenix Park by a gang of Fenians, who all got away. They were all brought to justice the following year. One of them James Carey, turned Queen's evidence, the illustration shows the scene in Kilmainham court-house. Carey was afterwards shot by an emissary of the Fenian party, who followed him to South Africa for that purpose
