New uniforms of our West Indian regiments

New uniforms of the 1st West India regiment. Illustration represents two Corporals in their picturesque Zouave dress. The uniform was similar in style to the French Zouave but with a better colour contrast. They had a fez cap with a large white turban and white tassel at the side; a white flannel jacket, ornamented in front with yellow braid and brass buttons. Over this was a scarlet waistcoat edged with yellow braid; also ornamented dark blue doublets with two yellow stripes on each side. Yellow leather leggings and sandals completed the dress. The regiment was raised in Barbados and stationed at Great Bahama
