Post Office Railway for Carrying Mail 1924

Construction of the tunnels commenced in 1915 (during WWI) and by 1917, the work was suspended on account of a shortage of materials and labor. Photograph taken in 1924 when the tracks were started to be laid again, beneath the streets London. The Post Office tube railway carried mail to various parts of London, in order to relieve traffic congestion. Three tunnels 14 foot, 9 foot and 7, can be seen in the photograph underneath the General Post Office
