Printers Pie cover, 1911

Front cover of Printers Pie magazine for 1911, illustrated by John Hassall and featuring one of his typical medieval characters chasing after a dog. Printers Pie was published by The Sphere and Tatler in aid of printers charities and edited by W. Hugh Spottiswoode. A sister publication, Winter's Pie, was published each Christmas. Both magazines carried contributions from the leading artists and humorous writers of the day including John Hassall (who designed the covers), William Heath Robinson, Lawson Wood and Walter Emanuel
