Proposed Channel bridge, 1889
Diagrams demonstrating a 24 mile long superstructure bridge to cross the Channel, proposed in 1889 as an alternative to the long-debated Channel Tunnel. The bridge was suggested by M. Schneider of Creuzot and M. Hersent, ex-President of the French Civil Engineer's Society and would have crossed the Channel from a point near Cape Grisnez to a point near Folkestone, therefore passing over the shallowest parts of the Channel
