Queen knights Francis Chichester at Greenwich
Sir Francis Chichester knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in the open-air at Greenwich on 7 July 1967 in recognition of his achievement in sailing solo around the world from West to East The Queen used Sir Francis Drake's sword for the ceremony, and Sir Francis later sailed up the Thames on the Gipsy Moth IV, greeted by thousands of well-wishers along the way
