Roger Casement
Human rights activist Roger Casement photographed in July 1912 with Senor Juan Tizon of the Peruvian Amazon Company. Casement was hanged in 1916 for his involvement in the Irish Nationalist revolt in Dublin - the Easter Rising. The so-called Black Diaries, unearthed and distributed to Casements sympathisers exposed him as a promiscuous homosexual and he went to his death in disgrace. The authenticity of the Black Diaries was questioned for over 80 years until a forensic investigation in 2002 confirmed they had been written by Casement
