The Roman Rocks Lighthouse, Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope
Roman Rocks lighthouse at Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope. This iron lighthouse was built in 1860, but showed signs of structural failure shortly thereafter. A proposal to encase the lower part in a massive granite wall was agreed, with work taking place between 1864 and 1869. The lighthouse is pictured when the work was completed
