Royal Hospital of Bethlehem; gallery for men 1860
The hospital also known as Bethlehem Royal Hospital or Bedlam was the oldest psychiatric hospital in the world. The building had been moved around many sites, but was founded in a priory on the outskirts of the city by the sisters of the Star of Bethlehem. It then moved to Bishopsgate Street, where Liverpool Street Station now stands. Afterwards to Moorfields and then to the Lambeth site where the Imperial War Museum is now housed
