Security precautions against suffragette activity at Ascot
A guard with a watch-dog patrols Royal Ascot which was on high alert in 1914 after the increasing militant activity of suffragettes. Other precautions brought in included a water hydrant in the enclosure to stop a possible rush, and an alarm gun which could be heard two miles away
