Ship-grave of an Anglo-Saxon warrior, Sutton Hoo
Unearthing the ship-grave of an Anglo-Saxon warrior king at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk. The excavations reveal the outlines of a 6th century sea-going craft. The wood of the vessel has mostly rotted away but lines of regularly-spaced marks in the earth show clearly enough how it was constructed
