Peter Kushana Lobengula, who claimed to be the son of King Lobengula of Matabeleland, pictured as a performer at Frank Fillis's show Savage South Africa at Earl's Court. The show, which featured 200 African performers and 6 elephants attracted 16, 000 visitors a day keen to see a recreation of darkest Africa in London. Peter is featured on the front cover of The Sketch in his costume, at a time when his relationship with a white piano teacher, Kitty Jewell, was causing a sensation. The pair married but later divorced and Peter remarried an Irish woman, He ended up living in Salford and working as a miner
