Span houses in Blackheath designed by pioneering architect Eric Lyons. Working for Span Developments Ltd, Lyons created small houses or flats which were built around courtyards giving his housing a feeling of intimacy and urbanity. The photograph appeared in a feature in The Tatler entitled, The menace of mock-Tudor criticising the ubiquity of unimaginative, diluted, monotonous Tudorbethan designs in suburbs
