Summer holidays for the Duke of Kent's children
Prince Edward of Kent, his hair fetching fixed with a slide, and princess Alexandra on holiday with their nurse at Kay's Bluff, a house at St. Margaret's Bay, Dover. Inset picture shows their parents, the Duke and Duchess of Kent who were flying from Croydon airport for a Continental holiday - partially to bid goodbye to the Princess's family before their departure for the Viceregal Lodge, Canberra where the Duke would become Governor-General of Australia - an appointment that was postponed following the outbreak of war, and never fulfilled as he was killed in an air crash in August 1942
