Televising the General Election of 1951

Scene in Studio A at Alexandra Palace as results were recieved during the 1951 General Election, which was televised by the BBC. ILN artist Bryan de Grineau visited Alexandra Palace on 26 October where he made drawing of the two studios that formed the centre of operations. Transmission took place from 10.15pm on 25 October to 4am on 26 October, then resumed from 10am to 5pm. Drawing shows cameras trained on easels on which the results cards were displayed and in the foreground, caption artists filling in results with quick-drying paint.
