Vesta Tilley (stage name of Matilda Alice Powles, 1864-1952), later Lady de Frece, music hall entertainer, best known for her male impersonations. Seen here in British military uniform during First World War. She was dubbed England's greatest recruiting sergeant, due to her patriotic and persuasive stage act.
