Washington Irving Bishop, the thought reader, at St James's Hall, London, 1883. Sketches of the seance or performance, including reading the number of the bank note. Mr Henry D. Labouchere, the editor and proprietor of Truth, had originally challenged Mr Irving Bishop to declare the number of a sealed bank note held by a nominee, but upon Mr Bishop declining to accept Mr Labouchere's nominee, Labouchere withdrew his offer and did not attend. The performance went ahead with someone chosen by Irving Bishop
