A War Dictionary
Cartoon by Will Owen guiding readers through a number of war-influenced expressions such as strafe (punish), blighty (Britain), which, during the First World War, became part of the nation's lexicon. Other words include char for tea, Bosche for the Germans (also known Fritz or Jerry) and Na Pooh meaning no more, or finished. Some of the slang terms originating during the Great WAr are still used in modern-day vernacular
