The wedding carriage of the Duke of Edinburgh and the Grand

Wedding procession past the Guard's memorial, Waterloo Place in London of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, following his marriage in St. Petersburg to the Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia. Following the wedding ceremony in the Winter Palace on January 23rd 1874, the couple returned to England in March. Although the marriage was not popular with Queen Victoria, who, following the Crimean War was opposed to a union with the Imperial Russian Royal family, the couple were welcomed to England with appropriate pomp and ceremony, including this procession through the streets of London
